Casinos & Gaming

Gambling was first legalized in Nevada in 1931 to help reduce the impact of the Great Depression. As a point of interest, that fateful bill was introduced by a 20-something freshman Assemblyman Phil Tobin of Winnemucca. Tobin’s law spawned what is now a $13 billion-a-year tourism industry for the state of Nevada. By the 1950s, gaming was taking root in Winnemucca. Joe Mackie, who moved to Winnemucca in 1954, purchased a number of casinos and made extensive renovations to each. He then began to actively promote tourism in Winnemucca.

Gambling and 24-hour entertainment continue to be mainstays of Winnemucca’s economy. Winnemucca currently has five major casinos, including the Winners Hotel Casino, the R & L’s Casino, the Winnemucca Inn & Casino, the Model T Resort and Casino and the Sundance Casino.

There are many different types of gaming action to be found in Winnemucca. From simple slot machines to Blackjack, Texas Hold’em poker, craps and roulette, there’s something here for everyone!
