Winnemucca Convention & Visitors Authority

The Humboldt County Fair & Recreation Board was created by Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners on March 5, 1965 under the authority of NRS 244A.597-244A.667.  On April 17, 1996 the Fair & Recreation Board adopted a resolution changing their name to Winnemucca Convention & Visitors Authority.  The WCVA is responsible for promoting and attracting conventions, meetings and like gatherings to utilize the Convention Center facilities under its charge.  The Authority may also solicit and promote tourism and gaming to further promote the use of its facilities.  The Winnemucca Convention & Visitors Authority is funded by and administers the County and City’s 12% room tax.

The Winnemucca Convention & Visitors Authority is comprised of five members.  Four members are appointed by the County Commissioners as follows: one County Commissioner; one member representing the hotel operators in the County, one member representing the motel operators in the County, and one member representing the other commercial interests in the County.  The Mayor/City Council appoints the one remaining member.  Members who are not elected officials serve two-year terms.  The terms of all elected officials are coterminous with their terms of office.  Vacancies are filled by the appointing authority for the remainder of the unexpired term.

During January of each odd-numbered year, the Winnemucca Convention & Visitors Authority chooses one of its members as Chairman, one of its members as Vice Chairman, and also elects a Secretary and Treasurer who may be members of the WCVA.  The Secretary and Treasurer may be one person.  In cooperation with the WCVA and Agriculture District #3 Board, a Director is hired by the Humboldt County Board of Commissioners to carry out the policies established by both Boards and oversee the daily operation of the facilities, events and supervision of staff.

The Winnemucca Convention & Visitors Authority meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. at the Winnemucca Convention Center.
